The End of Days - Movement II - The Death of Angelina (2016)
It has to hold. It has to hold. It has to hold. It has to hold...
The parameters weren't holding.
Going after a soul through hyperspace is futile...
Remembrance is all there would be...
The mission before us was an elementary one. A tachyon beam, one retrograde'ed through symbolic Dreamspace Accelerators, was out of alignment. We were called upon to fix this, in a procedural recall of that particular beam's Spectral Pattern.
I was on board, along with my old time partner, and a new trainee ... a woman named Angelina.
She couldn't have been much older than twenty-three. Age gets lost quickly on the smooth and complacent face of a new Traveler.
The Engine was engaged.
Angelina appeared dead on start.
The parameters would not hold.
And why, oh why, why oh so?
A bookmark.
I misplaced a bookmark eons ago, The Engine remembered, but I, unfortunately... could not.
She never even had a chance to wave goodbye...
Trainees never died this young, and yet, upon Remembrance...
